Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in the United States (after skin cancer) and the second leading cause of cancer death in women (after lung cancer)
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), an estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among women in the United States this year and an estimated 40,170 women are expected to die from the disease in 2009 alone. Today, there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.
The money we raise helps reach under-served populations, supports local education, screening, and treatment programs, while also helps fund peer-reviewed research programs being conducted locally and nationally.
Each additional dollar raised could be that one that helps that one mother, daughter, sister, or friend receive an early screening which could make all the difference.
So far we have raised close to $75,000 from this race. Please help me to continue to spread the word!!
